Privacy Policy

The short version: Ravenburst is a desktop app. Your writing stays on your computer and is never sent to us. It only goes anywhere else if you choose to back it up there. We collect very little, and we don’t sell or share any of it.

What we collect, and why

  • Trial: when you start the 7-day trial, the app sends a one-way fingerprint of your computer (a hash, which can’t be turned back into anything about you) so the trial can’t be restarted. No name, no email.
  • License: when you activate, and about once a month after, the app sends a one-way hash of your license code and the same computer fingerprint, to enforce the 3-computer limit and to honour refunds. We never receive the code itself.
  • Purchases: when sales open, our payment provider handles your payment and billing details as the merchant of record. We receive your email address to send your activation code.
  • Mailing list: only if you sign up. We store your email address, when you signed up and confirmed, and which page you signed up from. We use it to tell you about the Kickstarter and Ravenburst news, nothing else. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • Support: if you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you.

What we never collect

  • Your writing, documents or anything else in your projects
  • Usage analytics or tracking of what you do in the app
  • Crash reports, unless you choose to email us one

Backups you choose

Ravenburst can back your projects up to places you pick. Those copies go straight from your computer to that place; they never pass through us.

  • Git Backup sends your project to the folder, drive or Git service (such as GitHub) that you set up. That service’s own privacy policy applies there.
  • Google Drive (a test feature): if you connect it, Ravenburst asks Google for access only to the files Ravenburst itself creates in your Drive, not the rest of your Drive. It uploads your project to a “Ravenburst” folder there and reads back its own copies and their version history so you can restore them. The sign-in token is stored encrypted on your computer by your operating system, and you can disconnect at any time from Cloud Storage in the app or from your Google Account’s security settings. Ravenburst’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Who handles data for us

  • Cloudflare hosts this website, the trial and license service, and the mailing list. Like any web host it briefly processes IP addresses to deliver pages and stop abuse.
  • Resend sends our emails, such as confirming your mailing-list signup.
  • Our payment provider (from launch) processes purchases under its own privacy policy.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the mailing list from any email we send, or ask us to delete your address or any other information we hold by emailing support@ravenburst.com. We’ll confirm once it’s done.
